Analytics 

We collect the following information through Google Analytics from all visitors to the site: 

  • General geolocation data, derived from an IP address (which is not retained)  

  • Interactions with the website (such as page views, clicks, scrolls)

API Registration 

If you choose to register for access to the API, we will need to collect the following information from you: 

  • Full Name 

  • Email address 

  • Password 

This information is collected so we can grant you access to the Aotearoa Data Explorer API services and contact you about any updates to the API. 

We also collect some optional information as part of the registration for the API: 

  • Organisation details (if you specify you are signing up on behalf of an organisation) 

  • Organisation name 

  • Job Title 

  • Phone number 

We use this to inform useful updates to the platform. We collect information like email and phone number so we can contact you if there are important updates about our API service. If you register to use the API, information gathered about your visits to the site through Google Analytics will not be linked to your account.  

You have the right to ask for a copy of any personal information we hold about you, and to ask for it to be corrected if you think it is wrong. If you’d like to ask for a copy of your information, or to have it corrected, please contact us at [email protected]. The personal information we collect through the API Portal is held offshore in Stats NZ’s Microsoft Azure cloud environment (Australia). The data will only be used internally within Stats NZ by teams that need the information to provide the service to customers and will not be shared with any third parties.
